Workshop 16.+17.11.2024
Scores & Improvised Choreography
This workshop explores the interplay of improvisation and choreography. It is about navigating the conflicting interests of spontaneity and plan, of intuitive flow and analytic observation in a performance situation.
We research strategies to radically follow individual inspiration while still staying connected to an ensemble fabric. The focus is on both the individual experiences and skills and on functioning choreographic concepts for the group.
Working on the intersection of contemporary and tap dance, we also include the connection of audible and visual rhythm and the use of precise musicality as an organizing force in dance.
Of course, we also want to have fun with surprises, sensitive exchanges, a good workout and a healthy dose of creative chaos.
Who is it for?
The weekend is part of a new piece development by Sebastian Weber Dance Company. It will be led by Sebastian and attended by some of our dancers. However, we are also opening the workshop to other professional dancers.
So, this is not a “teaching event” so much as a collaborative exploration along tasks given by Sebastian.
Participants should be professional or pre-professional dancers with a knack for improvisation and physical research.
Tap dance skills are not necessary, but a passion for rhythm is.
Likewise, “pure” tap dancers are also very welcome, but need to have movement experience beyond the traditional tap genre.
