What do people need to defy global crises? This question is explored in the experimental world premiere of 100 Passions. The piece moves through a richly associative sequence of scenes that delve into the existential challenges facing the global community. Whether concerns about the climate, social catastrophes that force people to flee their homes or the everyday experience of discrimination, the exploration of the challenging issues of our time is always inspired by the power and passion that is ignited when people go beyond their personal interests and get involved for one another beyond their personal interests. With a life-affirming gaze, an arc of images opens up over the course of the evening between apocalyptic landscapes and intimate encounters, simultaneously outlining the self-destructive potential of humanity and its capacity for boundless empathy. A sweat-inducing mixture of percussion thunderstorms, tender duets and hypnotic ensemble scenes.
Once again, the rhythm of tap dance sets the pace, in the company’s familiar style: sometimes sensual, sometimes raw, always full of passion. The performance is scored by Konrad Koselleck’s composition, which teases unexpected colors out of the Staatsoperette orchestra between disco beats, dark soundscapes, flamenco rhythms and exuberant Dixie.
100 Passions was commissioned by the Staatsoperette Dresden and is a co-production with the Sebastian Weber Dance Company. It will be performed as part of a double bill together with The Seven Deadly Sins.
