BATS

We are not alone on this planet. Billions of other creatures live with us and every hint, every flap of wings has consequences for everyone else. The bat embodies the knot between humans and animals. It marks the contagious beginning of the corona crisis as the crossing of a boundary between fundamentally different beings. Its bite transforms us, the zoonosis makes us all the same.

In their new piece, the Sebastian Weber Dance Company uses the bat as a model for an unsettling deep drilling. BATS is a bloodthirsty, dark, contagious piece about humans as beasts in a programmed reality. As sensual creatures between archaic and science fiction, dance and technology, echo sounder and infrared. Based on the deeply sensitive orientation of the bat in space, a dense choreography develops in a puzzle of real and virtual spaces. In the middle of a jungle of cameras and screens, a flow of movements and atmospheres emerges, a constant mutation of perspectives and convictions: tap dance with rapid incidence. Algorithmic, elegant, restless!

BATS is the echo of a disinfected and digital world in which everyone is still connected to everyone, even if it is through contagion. Rough, physically smart tap dance combines itself with hyper-realistic visual effects and networks this hybrid beyond the boundaries of the stage in an online variant developed in parallel.
