TOUCH is a bright, curious, sensitive piece about the power of touch. Our sense of touch is a primal language and is vital for human existence. However, physical contact is becoming more and more rare in everyday life, and it’s not solely due to the coronavirus crisis. And in tap dance, touch doesn’t actually occur at all. With TOUCH, we changed that.
On stage, you will see 36 square meters of white sand on which we dance a barefoot pas de deux of tap dance. At first entwined in silence, the pair of dancers oscillate back and forth between proximity and distance, starting off slowly and then becoming more playful and confident. With the calm and focus of the choreography, the audience is drawn into the couple’s story and experiences touch as a multifaceted exchange.
Bringing touch and tap dance together was much more difficult than initially expected – and then all the more exhilarating as we finally succeeded. In the end, the process also made us change as dancers.
