Fonds Doppelpass für Sebastian Weber Dance Company

Doppelpass Fund for SWDCs TAP TRANSFORM

Great news for the Sebastian Weber Dance Company: the jury of the German Federal Cultural Foundation has picked our TAP TRANSFORM project for a “Fonds Doppelpass” grant!

contemporary tap dance with strong partners

TAP TRANSFORM is a comprehensive collaboration with LOFFT – Das Theater and the Theater Koblenz, which will help us raise the development of our own, unique aesthetics for contemporary tap dance to a new level. The established theaters are dream partners in our quest for a visually compelling, grooving and dramaturgically convincing movement language: as an internationally connected, adventurous production house with flat hierarchies and a distinctly contemporary profile, the LOFFT offers the perfect environment for our researches and workshops. Here, we can build on a foundation of trust that has been established in a number of previous, shorter collaborations. That the LOFFT also faces a new beginning with their move to into a new location at the famous Baumwollspinnerei, is the perfect coincidance.

Very different — and perfectly complementary — is the partnership with the Theater Koblenz: the broadly based city theater affords own ensembles for drama, musical theater and dance and features everything from childrens performances to grand opera. And an outstanding ballet company lead by choreographer Steffen Fuchs.

Steffen Fuchs adresses the same questions for his ballet work, as we do in tap, namely those of contemporary form and dramaturgical relevance. Before his time as a contemporary choreographer, Fuchs worked in a very experimental and cross-genre way in the independent cultural scene of Leipzig. So, here too, we build on a base of mutual trust and are extremely excited to have Steffen Fuchs as the dramaturg for the second of the TAP TRANSFORM productions.

opportunity for sustainable development

The German Federal Cultural Foundation established the Doppelpass Fund to support cooperation between independent groups in all artistic areas and established dance companies and theatres for a period of two years. The goal of the funding programme is to encourage the independent scene and theatres in Germany to try out new forms of collaboration and artistic production suited for tour performances, and finance their implementation. The programme wishes to provide artists on both sides the necessary freedom to productively merge their structures and working methods.

For the internationally cast SEBASTIAN WEBER DANCE COMPANY, the grant creates a great opportunity to tackle their artistic goals in a sustainable process, rather than the usual string of brief, disconnected projects. This luxury of a longer term planning, coupled with strong partnerships and new collaborations will boost the company’s development.
